Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Close Protection Officer will be responsible for the following duties: Conducts and coordinates personal protection operations for the designated official when on duty.  Remains within the proximity of the principal at all times. Remains vigilant and alert in case of any threat to the protected person and acts accordingly. Conducts all personal protection security operations as outlined in the UN personal protection management guidelines. Coordinates all activities with relevant parties to include the Security Operations Unit and other appropriate security organisations, as required. Whenever necessary, supervises drivers attached to the Close Protection Unit in the performance of their assigned duties. Operates all personal protection equipment and ensures equipment readiness. Carries all issued equipment while on duty. Conducts training sessions on personal protection subjects. Performs other duties, as assigned. Performs other duties, such as supporting the Security Section with MSCR, Deconfliction, guard force unit and convoy security as assigned by the CSO and Deputy CSO.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

Technical training in military or police procedures as well as training in close protection, self-defence and security techniques is required.

Work Experience

At least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in close protection with a local, national, private or international security organization is required. Knowledge of convoy security management is required. Experience working in close protection team in or in support of a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization in the Middle East Region is desirable. Certification as a Firearms Training Officer (FTO) is desirable. Certification in Basic Defensive Tactics Course is desirable. Knowledge of Mission Security Clearance Requests (MSCR) and deconflictions is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required, (both oral and written).
