Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The United Nations Environment Programme - Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic public-private partnership between the UN and over 400 global financial institutions. It has established some of the most important sustainability-oriented frameworks within the finance industry, including the Principles for Responsible Investment, the Principles for Sustainable Insurance and the Principles for Responsible Banking. It also convenes leading net zero alliances of banks, insurers, asset owners and export credit agencies which form part of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net-Zero. UNEP FI’s Climate team is looking for an intern to work with their Climate Adaptation and Resilience (A&R) programme. The programme works directly with financial institutions to advance their understanding of key topics at the intersection of climate and finance, with a focus on the impacts of climate change and how the finance sector can contribute to a more climate resilient world. Tasks: The intern will assist the UNEP FI Climate Change team with implementing work related to Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience, and support the coordination and management of its flagship programmes. These programmes include the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) Adaptation pilot, the Adaptation and Resilience Investor Collaborative (ARIC), and GEF-funded Climate Adaptation Innovation and Learning (CAIL) project. Daily responsibilities may vary depending on the individual’s background and the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: - Assisting with the drafting and editing of publications (research reports, studies, etc.); - Supporting the day-to-day coordination of the team (organizing meetings, note-taking, etc.); - Supporting the preparations for online and in-person events (networking and outreach, logistical planning, agenda setting, etc.); - Supporting on the preparation of webinars or community of practices (outreach, logistical planning, tracking attendees...); - Contributing to the preparation of materials for meetings, webinars, and workshops; - Preparing and drafting the ARIC monthly newsletter; - Support the technical work of the PRB and ARIC projects through research and desk studies.
